Airline Crew Scheduling: a Group Theoretic Approach
نویسنده
چکیده
The problem of airline crew scheduling is studied, the different problems composing it are formulated and solution techniques are offered. Special emphasis is given to the set covering problem appearing in the rotation selection phase. An approach is presented, based on the group theoretic method, which allows the fast solution of problems with large sizes. Thesis Supervisor: Robert W. Cockpit Crew Pairing Problem in Airline Scheduling: Shortest Path with Resources Constraints Approach
Increasing competition in the air transport market has intensified active airlines’ efforts to keep their market share by attaching due importance to cost management aimed at reduced final prices. Crew costs are second only to fuel costs on the cost list of airline companies. So, this paper attempts to investigate the cockpit crew pairing problem. The set partitioning problem has been used for ...
متن کاملDeveloping the Job Stress Model for Airlines Flight crew
Job is one of the most important issues in the discussion of human resources, and since the discussion of job stress in the flight crew and its relationship with the performance of the flight crew is very important and vital. This research is about recognizing and developing a model for job stress among the cabin crew of Mahan Airline. The qualitative research methodology has been followed by q...
متن کامل4 Airline Crew Scheduling
Crew scheduling can be defined as the problem of assigning a group of workers (a crew) to a set of tasks. The crews are typically interchangeable , although in some cases different crews possess different characteristics that affect which subsets of tasks they can complete. Crew scheduling problems appear in a number of transportation contexts. Examples include bus and rail transit, truck and r...
متن کاملGeneration Approach to Airline Crew Scheduling
The airline crew scheduling problem deals with the construction of crew rotations in order to cover the flights of a given schedule at minimum cost. The problem involves complex rules for the legality and costs of individual pairings and base constraints for the availability of crews at home bases. A typical instance considers a planning horizon of one month and several thousand flights. We pro...
متن کاملA Stochastic Programming Approach to the Airline Crew Scheduling Problem
Traditional methods model the billion-dollar airline crew scheduling problem as deterministic and do not explicitly include information on potential disruptions. Unfortunately, the effort used to optimize crew schedules and reduce crew costs is often wasted as flight schedules are often disrupted. Consequently, airlines spend a great deal of time and money optimizing crew schedules in the plann...
